NOVEMBER 2019 - GRADUATE PROFILE, NASIR YOUNIS

Nasir joined Hargreaves Jones in September ’18 as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor in the Manchester Office following completion of the Quantity Surveying BSc undergraduate course at Leeds Beckett University.

Since joining, Nasir has assisted the HJ Directors and co-workers on a number of high-profile Client’s in the Energy, Rail and Residential Sectors across the country. Nasir said, “Performing tasks such as re-instatement cost assessments in accordance with the RICS Guidance and learning new skills such as utilising CAD measurement software to produce Bills of Quantities has helped me develop my skill set and has brought me one step closer to becoming a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.

I have also assisted my colleagues in the management of a number of NEC contracts which I had not previously worked on which has allowed me to develop my contract and risk management skills by understanding the processes of the NEC.

Working within a project environment for a Client has also helped my understanding of the importance of health and safety awareness in construction where we would input into a weekly Safety Share to discuss the health and safety on the project, the safety share helped locate areas which required improvement. This helped our Client hit one million-man hours without any injuries on numerous occasions.”

Nasir is also enrolled on the HJ Graduate Development Programme to assist him on his journey to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor;

“The HJ RICS Training Programme Meetings consist of 2-3 presentations based on RICS competencies, Q & A session with a Chartered Surveyor and an update on all things RICS which has helped me with my diary and competency log. As well as the RICS Training Sessions I have received on the go tutoring and peer reviews from my counsellor and accountable director whenever I needed help and we would have a weekly team meeting to discuss workload and any issues which has allowed me to provide a high level of professional service to our Client’s which I am proud of.”
